is a six day, residential program designed specifically for people whose loved ones suffer from substance use disorders. When a family member has an addiction, life can become chaotic, lonely and full of fear. INSITE is here for those families.
When you love someone with an addiction, you usually develop your own ways to cope with the pain. Your life begins to revolve around getting others help. While this seems to be the solution, the pain, anger and resentment that family members feel often lingers after a loved one has gone to treatment. Dealing with addiction means dealing with everyone hurt by it.
Our program will help you rebuild yourself. You’ll learn techniques to cope with addiction in your family and the role that you play in that system. You can begin to repair your relationships and family environment, whether your loved one is in recovery or not.
The first goal of INSITE is to help you identify your feelings and understand yourself. The second is to restore your sense of self-worth and confidence. You’ll do this through group therapy, educational lectures, guest speakers and connection with your peers. We focus on connection and skill building, including:
Generational patterns of addiction
One of the many benefits of our program is connecting with others who are in the same situation as you. Our program typically has 12-15 participants per session, allowing for close connection with peers and facilitators. The friends you make during INSITE will become your support network after you complete the program.
The INSITE program includes a credit towards continuing care. In continuing care, you’ll have regular access to a counselor so that you can maintain the progress you’ve made during your six days at Edgewood.
As a part of the INSITE program, you’ll stay in the family wing of the Ferguson building. Each participant will enjoy a comfortable room with a private bathroom. You’ll have access to a lounge and a kitchen that you’ll share with your fellow participants. All meals are included, and are served in the main building through our dining room, Bridges.
INSITE is $2400.00 + GST and includes all therapy, meals and accommodations.
Participants must be 19 years or older.
To register for a session, you can also call: 1-800-683-0111. We will be pleased to answer any questions.
What INSITE alumni think:
“Before INSITE, I inhabited two worlds. On the outside, nobody knew the hell I was living - I was the ultimate actress. On the inside I carried a heavy weight of grief, fear, anger, guilt and desperation. Just the thought of my son would send me into a fit of uncontrollable sobbing. I felt if I worried more or pleaded more I would be able to stop his drinking! INSITE was my "ah-ha" moment. I saw and experienced very clearly how sick I was and how embedded I was in his addiction. INSITE gave me the tools to work on getting better.”
“I fully believe that the success of Edgewood's Program is the strength of its INSITE Program. Returning an addict to the same environment in which they became addicted, sabotages their attempts at creating a Lifestyle of Recovery. The Family of Origin MUSTbe part of the process and has its own recovery work to do. No matter where my path leads me, I am certain that I am able to provide my loved one the support she needs. I have people near me who understand how to support me in my efforts. I owe this debt of knowledge to Edgewood.”
“I grew up around alcoholism and then dated a series of alcoholics, until I ultimately married one. What this meant for me was that I constantly felt unsafe, afraid and unloved. I was in a perpetual state of trying to please everyone, be perfect, make everyone happy and put their needs before my own; it was exhausting. During INSITE, I learned tools to help me move forward and that I would never have to feel alone again; that I would have the love, support and guidance of a lot of people. I learned this in a very supportive environment led by very skilled counsellors. Through INSITE I gained hope - hope that life didn't need to look the way it had before.”
